East Coast mainline

From David Gambles:

End of line for East Coast mainline train dining cars

Standard-class passengers will see the end of one the satisfying loopholes of inter-city travel whereby they board the train and sit in the first-class surroundings of the dining for the price of a meal. East Coast are withdrawing dining cars and offering first class passengers an inclusive meal, leaving second class passengers with no choice but to eat from the basic trolley service. East Coast claim that the current catering operation is losing £20m a year and that this influenced the decision.
Elaine Holt, the chairwoman of East Coast, said such passengers should consider upgrading to a first-class ticket.
