Hot Case,Rod Blagojevich convicted of trying to sell Barack Obama's old Senate seat

Hot Case,Rod Blagojevich convicted of trying to sell Barack Obama's old Senate seat-The disgraced former governor of Illinois is facing up to 20 years in prison after being convicted of trying to sell Barack Obama's old seat in the US senate.Rod Blagojevich, once a rising star of the Democratic party, was on Monday night found guilty by a jury in Chicago of 17 corruption charges including fraud, attempted extortion and bribery.

The 54-year-old, a father of two, said he was "stunned" at the verdict, which came at the end of a retrial, after a jury in his first trial last year failed to agree on most of the charges against him.
"There is not much left to say other than we want to get home to our little girls and explain things to them," he said outside the court, after his wife Patti wept as the verdicts were read out.

Blagojevich is the fourth ex-governor of Illinois to be convicted of felonies since the 1970s in a state blighted by political corruption.
He was accused by prosecutors of running a "political corruption crime spree" and brazenly seeking to personally gain from his office.
